FREE Classes and VE Sessions
FREE CLASSES

We have recently started a project of conducting a series of training classes preparing anyone interested for the FCC Technicians class License Exam.

The classes run for four weeks on Saturday mornings at 9:00am until approximately 12:00noon at the New York Hall of Science.

Students learn about FCC rules and regulations, elementary Physics, modes of radio transmission, emergency transmissions, repeaters, technicians class frequencies and bandwidth and license privileges. After the class the students get an opportunity to visit the Ham Station and make some radio transmissions, with the sophisticated equipment in the HOSARC ham shack under the supervision of a licensed Amateur Radio operator.

The classes are absolutely FREE, we recommend buying a book for $20.00 and the exam fee is $15.00

The next scheduled class will start: TBA

Our next VE exam session is scheduled for: TBA

Please contact Robert Smith - AB2UV at freeclasses@ab2uv.com for more information or to register for a class.

VE EXAM SESSIONS

Our team of Volunteer Examiners administers all four elements of the amateur exams on a regular basis, as well as during our semi-annual Hamfests. We're affiliated with the ARRL's VEC, and our VE team offers the convenience of a centralized location in New York City and a friendly no-pressure environment, while adhering to the strongest standards of integrity.

Please consider the Hall of Science Amateur Radio Club's VE sessions whether you're taking your first Technician's test, doing the easy 5 WPM Morse Code exam or upgrading to General or Extra-class. Your $14 test fee entitles you to take any or all of the four exam elements, so you can go from no license to Extra-class in one session!

Exams are conducted at the New York Hall of Science beginning at 10:00 AM sharp. We're located in Queens, at 47-01 111th Street (at 49th Avenue), just a short walk from the 7 train and with plenty of on-site parking.

Pre-registration is requested for our regular monthly exam sessions (for free admittance to the Hall). Please send an e-mail to ab2uv@hosarc.org or contact Rob Smith - AB2UV at 917-254-2330 if you'd like to pre-register. NOTE: Pre-registration is NOT required for the VE sessions at our two hamfests. Hamfest exams start at 10:00 and walk-ins may register up until 11:00.

As an added bonus, during our HAMFEST SESSIONS ONLY, if you're not a member of our club and you pass any element of the exam, the Hall of Science Amateur Radio Club will be pleased to extend a complimentary membership to you for the balance of the calendar year.

All four exam elements will be given and will be graded on the spot--no waiting to see if you were successful. If you successfully upgrade, you'll be able to use your newly-earned privileges immediately!

Please bring the following:
* Exact change or a cheque ($15, standard ARRL test fee for 2010).
* Two forms of ID, including a photo ID.
* Your ORIGINAL license as well as a photocopy of same.
* Any relevant CSCEs

Upcoming Exam Dates:
Exams are given at the conclusion of our free amateur radio classes and at each Hamfest, usually the first Sundays in June and October (dates to be confirmed).
* Right now there are no exam prep classes scheduled.
* June 13th, 2010 (Hamfest Session)
* October 3rd, 2010 (Hamfest Session)
